Frederica Forth is the owner operator of ForthRight Solutions which offers private real estate course sessions and preparation for those wanting to sit the Bermuda Real Estate Exam.  She is presently in the industry as an independent real estate agent with Keller Williams Bemuda; in addition to this she offers mortgage consultation. She began her Banking career 35 years ago in the mortgage department of the Bank of Bermuda where she held a position of Vice President of Mortgages and Personal Lending. She was also very instrumental in the developmet of the Home Equity Product and subsequently gained additional experience with HSBC Bermuda as Senior Service and Sales Manager, where she remained until early retirement in 2008.

Many of the decisions you make concerning which property to purchase is personal but your financial position needs to be taken into account prior to the purchase of your home and certainly before you start househunting! All the banks offer pre-approved mortgages once you are approved the Bank will provide you with a letter indicating the amount you could borrow. This letter does several things: (1) Gives the purchaser comfort and confidence to act quickly on the acquisition of the property. (2) Narrows the agent's search to properties within your price range. Before you meet with your agent determine what type of property you are interested in; single dwelling, apartment house or condominium. Your first step into home ownership may not be your last step, you may have to take a step or two and build equity towards purchasing your dream home in the future, the key to this step is Location, Location, Location!
